Could Raes on Wategos in Byron Bay be the next White Lotus destination? Watch this space
An Aussie location for the cult-series White Lotus isn’t as far-fetched as it seems, with Byron’s hotel to the stars prepping for its casting call.

Location, location, location.
When it comes to White Lotus, the TV series breaking the internet and on everybody’s duck- pouted lips, it’s all about where the white privileged and sexed up are holidaying.
With season two wrapping up this week (“the gays are trying to murder me!”), fans are speculating furiously as to the location of the next season of the must-watch anthology series built around a hotel franchise.
First stop was the memorable Hawaii, with our very own Aussie actor Murray Bartlett giving an eye-popping performance as the rimming hotel manager.
For the second season, the action was transported towards sexed-up power dynamics with a picturesque Sicilian backdrop, complete with an erupting Mt Etna.
So what’s next?
Because if we were thinking about a White Lotus Australia, look no further than Raes on Wategos.
The Byron Bay boutique resort sitting on the beachfront of the blue-rippled and blue-chip Wategos Beach is a mecca for our cashed-up and famous.
Queen Bee Bec Judd and family were just last week ’Gramming away from the poolside at the five-star hotel while holidaying.
Melbourne media baron Antony Catalano has a side hustle as a hotelier, putting Raes on the social map. It now has a global cult following, with a portfolio that also includes Raes Dining and Cellar Bar and luxury superyacht Sea Raes.
Catalano does nothing by halves and along with his son Jordy Catalano, managing director of Raes, they have announced plans to expand its footprint.
They are offering the chance for rich-listers to invest in the coastal apartment ownership for the soon-to-be-modernist three-level building, equipped with a wellness and retail destination, due for completion in 2024.
They are working with architects of Brisbane’s hotel place to be, The Calile, to form a new landmark in Johnson St, in the centre of the hippy turned jetsetting beach town.
“They will need to run multiple series of White Lotus to keep pace,” Catalano laughed.
White Lotus creator Adam White is still being badgered on what’s next for the hit series as fans pontificate.
He alluded to Asia Pacific, which of course includes Australia.
“We are going to scout in Asia and look at countries there,” White told Vanity Fair.
“My instinct is that maybe it has something to do with spirituality. Eastern versus Western religion or Western people in an Eastern culture.
“Maybe after sex (in season two) it would be nice to have something that’s a little more celestial, or something that’s a little more out of the carnal, I guess. But I don’t know.”
Here’s hoping not.
