Instagram’s most followed AFL star Bailey Smith has gone, dare we even write it, “Insta-official” with his girlfriend Gemma Dawkins, posting a picture of the two alongside a love heart on Friday. Nothing like soft launching to the ‘Gram on a big news day.
Dawkins was said to be a er, rock of support during his recent setback, with the two quietly dating for some months.
Smith’s star status shows no signs of waning, on the contrary, as ambassador to Cotton On and other big name brands with another major announcement for football’s most famous mullet next week.
Bailey Smith was seen stepping out with Gemma Dawkins in April, but the couple has largely flown under the radar.
The young and private pair are unlikely be the next socialite couple, with neither craving the spotlight.
But while Smith may be loved-up, there’s no doubt he still likes to have a good time.
He’s been seen many times at venues like Electric Bar on Chapel Street, where most 21-year-olds go to hang out these days.
His sultry Cotton On billboards are scattered around Melbourne, which have been noticed close to home.
“It’s funny. My girlfriend’s dad drives past it every day,’’ Smith said recently.
“It’s hilarious … It’s interesting but I don’t pay too much attention to it. I try not to. I just focus on my footy, because that’s what comes first, and all those other rewards with Cotton On and Monster come after that.
“As long as I keep trying to perform and work hard during the week, all those other fruits and exciting things come.”
Smith has said he doesn’t open up easily or often because he’s scared of being judged.
Tigers told to leave phones at the door
Meanwhile, there were no rookie errors at Richmond’s Mad Monday. Unlike the Western Bulldogs whose post season knees-up went viral on social media after vision surfaced of defender Zaine Cordy legless, hunched over and down on his knees outside a local pub, the Tigers went bush. Dustin Martin and his mates travelled 90 minutes outside of Melbourne to a remote location for their celebration which had a fancy dress theme. And there was one key rule for the day - all phones were left at the door.
