Angela the sun bear went viral for her saggy botty in video taken at Chinese zoo

It was the viral video of a human-like bear that sparked claims of a Chinese conspiracy. But Angela is not a human dressed up in an ill-fitting wrinkly costume, she merely has a saggy bottom.

There’s a bear in there.

Last week’s internet head scratcher (remember the viral ‘is it a gold or blue dress’ saga) went to the saggy botty sun bear from a zoo in China’s Zhejiang province.

Viewers of viral social media clips pointed to the animal’s uncanny resemblance to a person in an ill-fitting wrinkly costume, while it was standing upright in its habitat.

The creature also appeared to be waving at visitors.

People around the globe thought Angela was a human in a bear suit.

Hangzhou Zoo denied claims it was a human in bear cosplay, stating “our zoo is government-run, so that kind of situation would not happen” which only led to further cries of a Chinese conspiracy.

Turns out the poor Malayan sun bear, who is named Angela, was in fact fat-shamed and has a saggy bottom for insulation purposes.

Ten’s veteran entertainment reporter Angela Bishop was quick to back in her namesake.

“So it turns out the Sun Bear at China’s Hangzhou Zoo accused of being a human in a bear suit is named Anglea.

“And like this Angela, she has a bit of a saggy butt. Apparently that loose skin helps her escape predators, by enabling her to wriggle away. So here’s to saggy butts keeping Angelas everywhere a bit safer.”
