Tennis ace Sir Andy Murray has quietly slipped into Melbourne looking flustered, dishevelled, injured and resembling an action man on the run.
The Scottish champion, who retired from tennis after his campaign at the Paris Olympics, is in town to shoot a TV commercial.
In the commercial, he plays an action man who’s being chased, from a luxury hotel suite in East Melbourne, through the bustling CBD, and into a Chinatown restaurant, where he makes his escape by diving through the eatery’s front window.
“I’m seeing a different Melbourne this time,” Murray told Page 13. “I’ve not been around some of these parts before, and it’s been good fun.”
“It’s a big shoot,” he added. “I’ve never done anything like this before because I never had the time. But it’s fun to do something like this.”
Murray said returning to Melbourne triggered feelings about missing tennis.
“I always love coming here.” Murray said. “I stopped playing tennis a few months ago, but being back (in Melbourne), it’s actually the first time I’ve missed playing tennis again. I always loved being here to play in the (Australian Open) tournament. It’s a brilliant time of year and all the players are pumped to compete.”
Murray has enjoyed his downtime playing golf — “you have the best golf courses in the world, and I never had the chance to play here until now” — and drinking at his favourite coffee spot.
