Ross Wilson, the rock n roll stepfather of Olympia Valance, has praised her bravery in coming forward to reveal she had been the victim of a cyber crime.
The TV star made a heartfelt post last week about the trauma of having private photographs leaked.
“It was a big load off her mind when she put it out there before anybody else did,’’ Wilson said.
“It was hard. It involved lawyers and police and the good thing there is now there’s an infrastructure to deal with that. A whole cyber crime bureau that is grappling with these innovations in media.”
Australian rock legend Wilson hasn’t played a gig since March 15 but he’s lucky to be surrounded by plenty of funk and soul at home.
The Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock star has been an avid vinyl record collector and has his own jukebox.
“It’s been a bit of a change of direction and it had its upside having a bit of a rest, but I’m starting to miss it now,’’ he said.
“I’m a guy who’s collected a lot records over the years, I’ve got things I’ve bought when I was a kid and I’ve got things I bought last week. The vinyl revival is really good.
“We use the Jukebox all the time and it is actually brand new but looks like it’s from the 50s.
It’s mainly blues, funk, soul and a little bit of other stuff. Just things I like listening to.”
Wilson is an ambassador for Record Store Day, the annual party held in 26 countries to celebrate the Indie Record Store. This year due to COVID-19 restrictions there are three RSD Drops across three months, starting this Saturday.
In Melbourne it is taking place online or within 5kms of home as click and collect.
“It’s very interesting how the music business has adapted very quickly,’’ Wilson said.
“I even wrote a song over zoom.”
