Nadia Bartel slams online trolls over surname criticism

Nadia Bartel has revealed the reason why she has kept her famous surname despite her marriage to AFL legend Jimmy Bartel publicly ending four years ago.

Nadia Bartel has slammed online trolls who question why she has kept her famous surname despite her marriage to AFL legend Jimmy Bartel ending four years ago.

The mum of two replied to a comment on TikTok that said: “Kept the surname I see”.

“I cannot tell you how many times I get asked this question, trolled about this, happens daily,” she said on Sunday.

“If it’s in my DM’s, if it’s in my comments on Instagram, if it’s in my comments on here.

“It’s been happening everyday since my marriage ended and I don’t have to answer this question obviously but I am so sick of the question being thrown at me, I’m trolled with it all the time.”

Nadia said she kept her surname as she wanted the same one as her two sons Aston, 7, and Henley, 4.

“The fact of the matter is, I want the same surname as my two small boys, I’m very traditional like that,” she said.

“Culturally, it’s just the way I am and I really want the same surname as my boys.

“This might change in the future, obviously when they get older I might feel differently about it.

“I don’t see why I personally have to have a different name to my small children because my marriage ended.”

The Henne founder revealed it was “really hard” for her to change her surname to Bartel.

“I actually did really love my surname, my maiden name is Coppolino,” she said.

“It was really hard for me to change from Coppolino to Bartel but then obviously I’ve had Bartel for such a period of time now.

“I just look at it the last name of my two boys and I really don’t know why all of you care so much about it and why I still need to be trolled about it today and it was four years ago when my marriage ended.”

Nadia refused to go into detail about why her relationship broke down in August 2019 amid speculation of Jimmy being linked to another woman.

The pair married in February 2014 in a lavish ceremony on the Bellarine Peninsula, after the former Geelong star popped the question on a private beach in Mexico.

They welcomed their first child Aston in 2015 with their second child Henley born three years later.
