An American rapper has gone viral on social media after he almost shot himself while filming his upcoming music video.
Brooklyn-based drill rapper Lil Mabu was stunting for the cameras alongside his crew when he appeared to accidentally pull the trigger of a gun he took out from his pants.
Needless to say, the gun went off shocking the 19-year-old and his mates, who were filming by their luxury car in an abandoned parking garage.
“Rap snippet gone wrong,” the rapper – real name Matthew Peter DeLuca – captioned the clip.
The internet soon erupted with unanimous comments that “Lil Mabu almost Cheddar Bob’ed himself”, which refers to the character of Cheddar Bob (played by Evan Jones) in the 2002 film 8 Mile, who threatens Rabbit (Eminem) with a gun only for it to go off, shooting himself in the leg.
The viral moment with Lil Mabu also attracted the following reactions:
“Lmao he put his finger on the trig instead of the handle…” someone commented, adding a clown emoji.
“Bro almost shot his d**k off for a song that won’t go viral,” another person commented.
However, given Lil Mabu has a history of pulling staged stunts, many have concluded the video is just another one of his stunts.
“Good effects but they forgot to add the ejecting shell casing,” someone noted, with another adamant it “was a blank. Y’all believe anything.”
“I’m an editor I have that same Effect on my hard drive,” claimed another.
Someone even called for Lil Mabu to stop fronting because he “ain’t no gangster fr”.
Indeed, the rapper grew up on the right side of the tracks in New York, where he reportedly attended a $60,000 a year prep school on Manhattan’s Upper West Side that was also the learning stomping ground for generations of Vanderbilts and Kennedys.
He lived at his parents’ five-bedroom, five-bathroom apartment on the Upper East Side before going to study at Emory University – an elite college in Atlanta.
From his raps about fighting cops, robbing jewellery stores and sleeping with “b****es”, it’s hard to believe Lil Mabu experienced hardship with his extreme privilege.
“Can’t say no to the poles and I’m gon’ beat him down with a bat I put an opp in a wheelchair, give me like an hour, I’m leavin’ him flat,” he raps in one of his songs, titled No Snitching, about attacking police with a baseball bat.
The video has clocked up 6.6 million views on YouTube.
