Country music legend John Williamson has been forced to cancel his much-loved gig at the annual Tamworth festival after suffering a gruesome injury to his arm while working on his famed Gold Coast property.

The True Blue troubadour, who regularly hosts gigs at his beloved Willowshed farm in Springbrook, underwent emergency surgery after he ripped skin off his left arm and injured muscles and nerves two days ago.

The godfather of the annual Tamworth country musical festival posted a photo of his heavily bandaged left arm to alert his fans he would not be doing his gig this year.

“Well, after 40 years of messing around with rocks at Willowshed, Springbook, one finally got me on the left hand,” Williamson said.

“It ripped the skin badly and needed surgery yesterday to repair muscle and nerve damage and stitch it up again.

“The surgeon said no guitar playing for probably four weeks.”

Williamson was due to play his much-anticipated Tamworth festival show at the Town Hall on January 26.

Shows scheduled in Redland, Ipswich and Toowoomba in early February will be rescheduled at a later date this year.

The 78-year-old singer, musician and songwriting star still plans to rock up to the Golden Guitar Awards in Tamworth on January 27.

He is nominated for two awards for the songs he released in support of the Voice to Parliament.

Voice from the Heart is a contender for the Instrumental of the Year and Uluru Forever is nominated in the Heritage of the Year category.

“I apologise to everyone who was looking forward to my Tamworth concert and the three at Redland, Ipswich and Toowoomba. I’m still planning to get to Tamworth for the Golden Guitar Awards and the opportunity to catch up with mates. I will see you around and about there,” he told fans.
