Taylor Swift gives fans ‘new’ old songs as she kicks off The Eras Tour in America

Taylor Swift channels Avril Lavigne and Fleetwood Mac on unreleased songs dropped on the eve of her world tour kick-off.

Taylor Swift has staged another global chart takeover with the surprise drop of four unreleased songs on the eve of her Eras world tour premiere in the US.

The sonic souvenirs for her fans will placate Australian Swifties who are desperately waiting for the Anti-Hero pop superstar to confirm her concerts here.

It is likely Swift will play Australian stadiums in early 2024, with a tour announce expected soon.

As she teased fans with posts of photos on her rehearsing her Eras production, the Swifties army was marshalling forces to stream her new clutch of releases straight into the top 10 of every singles chart in the world next week.

The song dump includes three re-recorded (Taylor’s Version) songs and All Of The Girls You Loved Before, which didn’t make the cut for her 2019 record Lover.

That minimalist Swift pop waltz leaked in February and went viral on TikTok with fans calling for an official release.

Eyes Open (Taylor’s Version) is an Avril Lavigne-style mid tempo rocker with Swift giving her dexterous vocal a full workout. It originally appeared on the Hunger Games soundtrack album released in 2012 but not in the film

The gentle folk pop track Safe & Sound (Taylor’s Version), which is reminiscent of a harmony-laden Fleetwood Mac ballad, was also first released on the Hunger Games record.

Her re-recorded version again features Joy Williams and John Paul White, the two members of the now defunct American indie folk duo The Civil Wars which were credited on the original song.

Those two tracks will add more fuel to the Hunger Games social media revival which has revved up since the four films landed on Netflix.

The final Taylor’s Version track from this new batch is a lush, orchestral rendition of If This Was A Movie from her 2010 record Speak Now.

Fans speculate that Speak Now will be the next instalment to join Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) both released in 2021 in the wildly successful re-recording campaign sparked by the hugely publicised dispute with Big Machine Records over the rights to the masters of her first six albums.

Swift’s sixth headlining global tour, The Eras Tour kicks off on Saturday (AEDT) in Glendale, Arizona, which has officially renamed itself Swift City for the occasion.

She has only announced the American leg of the tour which is currently scheduled to end in Los Angeles in August.
