Forget the Chiefs and 49ers. Even forget Usher. All eyes on Monday’s Super Bowl will be on pop superstar Taylor Swift and her mad dash from Tokyo to Las Vegas in time to watch lover Travis Kelce take to the field.
The 34-year-old has made the 12-hour flight to the US on her private jet just hours after finishing the last of her Japan concerts, crossing nine time zones and the International Date Line.
Swift’s highly-anticipated appearance to cheer on Kansas City Chief’s player Kelce has already overshadowed R&B star Usher’s halftime show performance.
While cameras and fans at Allegiant Stadium will be trained on Swift during play when not watching the action on the field, Usher may be able to steal some of the spotlight back during his performance as the venue goes to black.
But television producers love catching crowd reaction to the show as well so house lights may illuminate during the 15 minute performance to catch Swift singing and dancing along.
The halftime set is usually 12 to 13 minutes in duration because of the tight turnaround to set up the stage and remove it in time for the second half.
He is likely to perform a medley from his enviable catalogue of hits with setlist contenders including Yeah!, You Make Me Wanna …, U Got It Bad, My Boo and Love In The Club.
A video teaser of the Super Bowl set included Ludacris and Lil Jon, Usher’s collaborators on his 2004 hit Yeah!
But he has also dropped his new record Coming Home, his first solo studio album in eight years, three days before the Super Bowl, so you can expect a snippet of a fresh track.
Usher’s Super Bowl Halftime performance will happen between noon and 12.30pm on Monday on Seven.
