Spotify removes shuffle button after Adele request

Spotify has made a huge change to its service after Adele revealed she wasn’t a fan of the popular feature.

Adele has managed to get Spotify to hide its shuffle button on artist’s album pages.

The music streamer removed the option to press shuffle from album landing pages after the British singer said she requested it prior to the release of her new album, 30.

Taking to Twitter to thank Spotify for making the stance, the Hello singer said: “This was the only request I had in our ever changing industry! We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason.

“Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you Spotify for listening.”

Spotify’s official Twitter page replied to her tweet, writing: “Anything for you.”

While the button has been removed from album pages, users still have the option to select the shuffle button once they’re listening to a song.

Adele’s music comeback has been a long time coming, with her single Easy on Me marking her first release in six years.

The album – her fourth studio album – was released on Friday. It largely covers off her divorce from ex-husband Simon Konecki after a year of marriage.

It comes after news Adele became offended by Australian Channel 7 reporter Matt Doran, who openly admitted to the artist he had not listened to her album during an interview filmed earlier this month.

Doran had flown to London for an Australian-exclusive 30 minute interview with the pop powerhouse, in a deal brokered between Channel 7 and Sony which reportedly cost $1 million, including the local rights to her One Night Only concert special – which aired on Sunday night.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Adele’s record company exercised their right to veto the interview, leaving Seven with no footage to air.

Doran defended himself in an interview with The Australian published last night, claiming his failure to listen to her new music was an unfortunate mistake.

He said he had been sent an e-copy of the new album but “somehow missed” it while flying to London for the sit-down on November 4. He called it “the most important email I have ever missed,” and said he was “mortified and unequivocally apologetic”.

“When I sat down to interview Adele, I was totally unaware that I’d been emailed a preview of her unreleased album,” Doran said.

He also refuted reports he was suspended by Seven over the incident, telling The Australian’s Nick Tabakoff he was never “formally” suspended despite being off the air for one weekend.
