The Red Hot Chili Peppers will give it away to Australian fans this summer with a massive stadium tour.
And they’re bringing pop juggernaut Post Malone with them.
The Australian leg of their Global Stadium tour kicks off at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on January 29 before heading to Sydney’s Accor Stadium on February 2, Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on February 7 and winding up the Australian visit at Perth’s Optus Stadium.
Melbourne-born bassist Flea, who also has a home on the NSW south coast, flagged the band would be returning in early 2023 as he celebrated Unlimited Love claiming their seventh No. 1 on the ARIA album charts in April.
“We’re definitely coming … I think if you look at our schedule, you’ll see that we’re all booked up until the end of this year. So I don’t think we could get there this year,” he said.
The enduring alternative rock heroes last toured Australia in early 2019; their Melbourne-born bassist Flea visited Sydney for a holiday in December last year.
Unlimited Love opens with the single Black Summer, a song partly inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, but which struck a chord with their Australian fans because of the horrific 2019/20 bushfires.
“I thought my house (on the NSW south coast) was gone for sure in those fires,” Flea said.
“It came right, right there, it just didn’t get burnt.”
The stadium tour will also be Post Malone’s first shows here for four years, with the 26-year-old rapper recently releasing his fourth album Twelve Carat Toothache, which features the track Wasting Angels with his Australian mate Kid Laroi.
Posty and Laroi both sport homemade tattoos they inked on each other.
A Telstra Plus member pre-sale for the tour opens on July 6, with general tickets on sale from July 11. For all tour and ticket details, go to livenation.com.au
