ED SHEERAN has set the record straight after some Glastonbury viewers claimed he used a backing track during his headline slot.
The singer, 26, is known for using a loop rig to build layers of instrumentation while performing live without the need of a backing band, The Sun reports.
Following his festival closing set, Ed wrote on Twitter: “Never thought I’d have to explain it, but everything I do in my live show is live, it’s a loop station, not a backing track. Please google x.”
He followed it by tweeting: “Anyway, great night, great atmosphere, family, friends, fun. Love you all x.”

Plenty of people leapt to Ed’s defence, with one writing: “These are obvs people that have never seen Ed live before, he doesn’t need a band he does it all himself and sings LIVE, not many can do it!”
Another wrote: “How do people not know this you’ve been doing it since the start of your career.”
A third said: “You’re so good at the loop station that it looks & sounds effortless. We know it takes loads of talent & your live show is incredible.”

Ed’s performance on the Pyramid Stage followed headline sets from rock giants Foo Fighters on Saturday and alternative heavyweights Radiohead on Friday.
It was Ed’s fourth appearance at the festival but was by far his biggest crowd at Worthy Farm and, despite having headlined Wembley Stadium, the hit maker admitted he was feeling nervous.
He told the crowd: “For those of you who haven’t seen one of my shows before or haven’t heard one of my songs, please pretend that you know them. For those of you who have, please sing all of the words.”
He added: “I’d like to say it was a dream of mine, but I never thought I’d get to the point where I was playing this stage, let alone headlining it.”
The triumphant set included all his hits including Thinking Out Loud, Sing and The A Team.
