Kylie Minogue is planning to take fans to disco heaven.
The singer’s 15th album, called Disco, was finished during lockdown, with Minogue learning how to record her vocals at home.
She will discuss the album, out November 6, in an exclusive interview on new ABC music show The Sound at 5.30pm tonight.
“I was just pumped – to use the Aussie word I’d spread everywhere – and very excited to make new music,” Minogue said.
“There’s a bit of a license with the term ‘disco’. I mean right now it’s a kitchen disco, or a loungeroom disco, right? (The album) is a bit ‘70s or a bit ‘80s, but the first step into it was the dancefloor – and disco seemed like a heavenly place to be.”
Minogue also filmed the video for new single Say Something in London adhering to COVID-19 restrictions.
The clip, which will air on The Sound, sees Minogue astride a horse statue in a nod to Bianca Jagger at iconic disco Studio 54.
“It’s an intense amount of glitter,” Minogue said of the sparkly, intergalactic-themed video.
“It was a different shoot with the restrictions but it felt good to be back on set. The horse was the star of the show. I don’t think my galactic steed was designed to be ridden, but I fell in love with him, he was gorgeous. I hope when people see it, it takes them to another level and away to wherever their happy place is.”
Say Something has bulleted into the Top 20 of most played songs on Australian radio this week, and has hit No. 3 on the US Dance/Electronic sales chart.
Tonight’s episode of The Sound will also feature Midnight Oil performing their comeback single Gadigal Land, recorded for the National Indigenous Music Awards last night.
