It appears the theme for Katy Perry’s musical comeback is “bikinis,” as the star strips off again in her new music video.

Two music videos in to Katy Perry’s musical comeback, and a cohesive theme is emerging: G-strings.
The pop star once again strips down to nothing but a thong bikini for the video to her new single, Lifetimes. The loved-up dance-pop banger is a hastily-released follow-up to Perry’s disastrous comeback single, Woman’s World, which failed to chart inside the top 40 in most major markets upon its release last month.
Where Woman’s World’s video was a high-budget affair with multiple expensive-looking sets, Lifetimes is back-to-basics, showing Perry frolicking on a beach on the Spanish islands of Ibiza and Formentera, where the video was filmed.
Eagle-eyed viewers will also spot an easter egg in the video: At one point Perry dances in front of a billboard which features the tracklisting for her upcoming studio album 143, set to be released on September 20.
Shortly after the album’s release, Perry will visit Australia for a promotional tour that will include a headlining performance at the AFL Grand Final on September 28.
143 marks the star’s first album release in four years, since 2020’s underperforming Smile. But Perry’s musical comeback has already been deeply divisive, with Woman’s World getting scathing reviews from listeners and critics alike.
And some have criticised Perry’s decision to once again work with pop producer Dr. Luke, who was at the helm for her massive hits like Teenage Dream and Last Friday Night, for these new singles, more than a decade after they last worked together.
Fellow pop star Kesha served Dr. Luke, producer of her early hits, with a lawsuit in 2014 alleging emotional distress, sexual abuse and employment discrimination.
Dr. Luke denied all claims, and launched a countersuit against Kesha. In 2023, the two parties announced they had finally reached a joint settlement.
But that scandal made him a controversial figure in pop music, with artists like Kim Petras and Doja Cat weathering public backlashes for working with him in the wake of Kesha’s claims.
Despite the mixed reaction to her new music, it appears Perry is full steam ahead rolling out the album campaign.
Late last month she was spotted filming another music video for album track I’m His, He’s Mine, which samples Crystal Waters’ 1991 dance classic Gypsy Woman (La Da Dee).
Footage from the video shoot shows Perry cavorting with a male dancer, dressed in – what else – a G-string bikini.
