Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans are mortal enemies in the trailer for the upcoming Netflix action extravaganza, The Gray Man.

It is reportedly the most expensive movie Netflix has ever made with a production budget of $US200 million, according to Deadline.

The trailer dropped today, packed with shots of Gosling on the run, ominous threats, fisticuffs between the two leading men and moustaches.

There’s definitely one superior moustache and there’s no question which one it is. It’s Ryan’s OK? They say as much in the movie.

Gosling plays an assassin named Court Gentry, also known as Sierra Six. He’s the one the agency sends in when they need to deploy a deadly touch.

But when Court uncovers some dirty dealings the CIA would rather not be made public, he finds himself the target of Lloyd Hansen (Evans), whose Terminator-esque focus is Court’s death.

Knives Out and Bond breakout Ana de Armas plays an agent on Court’s side.

Originally slated to star Brad Pitt and then Charlize Theron, the movie has been in development for some years, before landing on Gosling.

The supporting cast includes Billy Bob Thornton, Jessica Henwick, Rege-Jean Page, Wagner Moura and Alfre Woodard.

The film is based on the first in a series of novels by Mark Greaney. If the title is successful, it opens the possibilities for sequels.

The thriller is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the filmmaking brothers responsible for some of Marvel’s most financially successful instalments including Avengers: Endgame and Captain America: Civil War.

The Gray Man reunites the Russos with Evans, who has starred in five of their Marvel movies.

The Captain America reunion also includes screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who wrote the script with Joe Russo. The Gray Man is Markus and McFeely’s non-MCU project in almost a decade, since 2013 Michael Bay movie Pain & Gain.

The Gray Man is on Netflix from July 22.
