PAUL Hogan will pay tribute to his most famous on-screen creation in a new movie entitled The Very Excellent Mr Dundee.
Hogan will star and play himself in the film, which will start shooting in Los Angeles, Australia and Canada next month, Variety reports.
The fictional film’s plot will revolve around Hogan’s reputation being destroyed just weeks before he is set to receive a knighthood for comedy.
The project is Hogan’s first major acting role in almost a decade and comes after a hyped up trailer for Dundee: The Son of a Legend turned out to be a Tourism Australia Super Bowl ad.
The star-studded trailer featured US comedian Danny McBride as Mick Dundee’s American son Brian and Chris Hemsworth as his Australian guide.
Along with guest appearances from Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie and Ruby Rose, Hogan made a cameo as his character Mick Dundee at the end of the trailer.
But while the trailer sparked plenty of buzz and even a petition calling for another Crocodile Dundee movie, Hogan has said he won’t be making another sequel.
“The first one was the most successful independent film ever made,” Hogan told Today in February.
“The second one did huge business, but the third one sort of died. I thought the third one was flogging a dead horse so I don’t think I will be pushing for a fourth one.”
Released in 1986, the first Crocodile Dundee movie was a box office smash and critical success, transforming Hogan into an international star.
