The movie Australians have been waiting for – or didn’t know they were waiting for but now definitely are – has a local release date.
Palm Springs will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video on November 20.
Starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti, the story follows two people – Nyles and Sarah – who meet at a destination wedding. But Nyles is stuck in a time loop – Groundhog Day-style – and after Sarah follows him into a mysterious glowing cave, finds herself in the same sticky situation.
Together (and sometimes very much apart), they must try and extricate themselves from their impossible circumstances.
Palm Springs is a genre-bending film that combines aspects of rom-coms, sci-fi and straight comedies.

Directed by Max Barbakow from a script by Andy Siara, the supporting cast includes J.K. Simmons, Peter Gallagher, Meredith Hagner and Australian actor Chris Pang, the latter of whom drops some very distinct Australianisms.
Palm Springs broke records earlier this year as the highest selling movie in the history of the Sundance Film Festival where it was sold for $US17.5 million. It bested the previous record, The Birth of a Nation, by 69 cents.
Palm Springs was released on US streaming platform Hulu in July, where it quickly won plaudits among fans and critics. Hulu claimed the movie set the record for its biggest opening weekend. It currently holds a 94 per cent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
At the time, Australians were seeing tonnes of love for Palm Springs on their social and news feeds, but without any way of legally watching it. Now, Amazon has nabbed the streaming rights for a group of countries including here and in New Zealand, where it will debut before Canada, UK and select European territories.
