Even more unarresting than before

THE race to make the most unnecessary comedy sequel of the 21st century has a new leader. To the surprise of everyone, it is not Hot Tub Time Machine 2.

The original Paul Blart: Mall Cop was caught short for amusing material once star Kevin James did the fatty-falls-off-a-Segway thing for the tenth time.

That was back in 2009. Compared to the sequel in 2015, those were the good old days.

In this rigorously chuckle-proof affair, James’ lard-bodied security guard just can’t land a laugh no matter what.

Beanbaggish ... Kevin James in the sequel nobody asked for.

A switch of location to Vegas brings on nothing but branding opps for a US casino chain.

Mr Blart and his teenage daughter have headed there for a national mall-cop convention at a posh hotel.

Mr Blart is convinced the pretty manager of the hotel is always hitting on him. This is not the case. But she will find herself inexplicably attracted to this walking, talking beanbag by film’s end.

Not funny the first time ... the Segway features again in this tired follow-up.

Unless you’ve been mixing your medications, your resistance to Mr Blart’s charms should hold for at least the rest of your life.

Energy levels are distressingly low here, as if all involved (the no-name support cast appear to have been bought from a sale at Budget Actors Warehouse) have been forced to do so at gunpoint. Shop elsewhere.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2is now showing on general release around the nation. Not that you’re really going to go, are you?
