While it is showing its age a bit these days — especially when viewed in high-definition — this giddy remix of martial arts, new-age metaphysics and shapeshifting heroes and villains remains one of the most influential movies of modern times. Reeves makes a little go the longest way in the iconic lead role of Neo. The divisive sequels (Reloaded and Revolutions) can also be found on Foxtel Now.

STREET KINGS (2008)

A bullet-riddled throwback to Clint Eastwood’s heyday as the baddest good cop of them all, this pulpy crime thriller dares you to believe Reeves can do it too. Keanu goes mighty close to pulling it off, thanks to an insanely convoluted screenplay co-written by celebrated crime author James Ellroy. Very violent and overly gun-crazy, but almost always very watchable. Co-stars Chris Evans.

SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE (2003)

Foxtel Now, Netflix

During an action-packed week at her beach house, a lonely playwright (Diane Keaton) must suddenly choose between the amorous intentions of a veteran playboy (Jack Nicholson) and a strapping young doctor (Reeves). A refreshing romantic comedy crowd-pleaser where the lead characters are not only unafraid to look their age, but they quite often act it too.

TO THE BONE (2017)

Netflix

***1/2

Lily Collins plays Ellen, a 20-year-old aspiring artist who has been fighting the ravages of anorexia since childhood. Now she is embarking on one last desperate try at rehabilitation, by entering a residential clinic run by a no-nonsense doctor (Reeves). The film can be challenging going, but never at the expense of alienating those who need to hear its message the most.

SPEED (1994)

An oldie, but a goldie. A young, fit and fairly animated (by his relaxed standards, anyway) Reeves is locked in a battle of wits with mad bomber Dennis Hopper. The action is concentrated on a packed bus careening all over Los Angeles. If it dips below 50 miles-per-hour on the speedo, the vehicle will go boom, and it will be bye-bye for all aboard (including an about-to-be-famous Sandra Bullock).
