A decidedly dire cartoon, Arctic Justice staggers into Australian cinemas just seven days after racking up what some pundits believe to be the worst opening weekend for a wide release in American box-office history.
So, are you keen to see what all the fuss is not about? Of course, you aren’t.
Jeremy Renner is the voice of Swifty, an Arctic Fox who wants a job with a prestige delivery service largely staffed by huskies.
There’s also some palaver about a walrus supervillain hellbent on fracking an untapped reserve of fart gas to melt the North Pole, some annoying stereotypical sidekicks (voiced by the likes of Alec Baldwin, James Franco and, err, Heidi Klum), and animation as bland as deep-discount margarine.
Slopped atop a very familiar kind of story kids have seen in the animation genre too many times to count, there are the predictable mentions of never taking your friends or family for granted, being true to yourself, and never giving up on a dream.
Admirable sentiments? Yes. When heard from a voice cast who could not be less invested in what they are saying? Not so admirable.
If all that doesn’t scream ‘entertainment is not this movie’s friend’, you also get a soundtrack full of songs performed by Jeremy Renner.
It is only three weeks until the release of Frozen 2. Seeing this would only turn you off seeing anything chilly or white on screen for the rest of the year.
