Film Trailer: Happiest Season

Kristen Stewart plays a young woman shocked to discover her girlfriend has kept their relationship a secret in her latest film, in cinemas later this month.

Christmas-themed flick Happiest Season sees Stewart play Abby, who’s preparing to meet her girlfriend’s family for the first time as they head home for the holidays – and who has big plans to propose to her at Christmas dinner.

There’s just one problem: Abby learns that Harper (Mackenzie Davis) has kept their relationship a secret from her family, she begins to question the girlfriend she thought she knew.

With an all-star supporting cast including Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Alison Brie (Glow), Aubrey Plaza (Parks & Recreation), Mary Steenburgen (Step Brothers) and more, the hilarious and heartfelt romantic comedy is written and directed by Clea Duvall, who audiences would know for her work as an actor in shows like Veep and The Handmaid’s Tale.

The role comes as former Twilight star Stewart recently discussed the immense pressure she felt coming out as queer at a time where she was one of the world’s most famous women.

The 30-year-old actress, who rocketed to fame in 2008 thanks to the wildly popular Twilight movies, sat down for an interview for InStyle last month where she candidly talked about the difficulties she faced being open about her sexuality in the public eye.

“The first time I ever dated a girl, I was immediately being asked if I was a lesbian,” Stewart said.

“And it’s like, ‘God, I’m 21 years old.’ I felt like maybe there were things that have hurt people I’ve been with. Not because I felt ashamed of being openly gay but because I didn’t like giving myself to the public, in a way.

“It felt like such thievery. This was a period of time when I was sort of cagey.”

HAPPIEST SEASON is in Cinemas November 26.
