MAFS stars Jacqui and Clint mauled online after ‘PR stunt’ engagement

Jacqui and Clint’s shock engagement during a fan event last night has copped widespread backlash, as Jacqui’s ex TV husband weighed in.

‘Be gone with you, horrible woman! Be gone!’

Jacqui and Clint’s whirlwind Married At First Sight romance has resulted in a surprise engagement, leaving their co-stars scratching their heads.

The pair, who sensationally debuted their relationship during Sunday night’s reunion dinner party, became engaged in frenzied scenes at a Sydney viewing party last night hosted by So Dramatic! podcast host Megan Pustetto.

Clint, 44, presented a huge five-carat oval diamond ring while onstage at the fan event alongside bride-to-be Jacqui, 29, after just four months dating one another.

Most of the happy couple’s MAFS co-stars were at another viewing party across the city hosted by Daily Mail Australia, where Jacqui’s former on-screen husband Ryan sarcastically reacted to the shock proposal.

“It was completely candid and unplanned, not a publicity stunt, I’m so happy,” he jokingly told the outlet.

Ryan was joined by fellow co-stars including Rhi and Jeff, Teejay and Carina, who could all be seen laughing as news of the engagement emerged.

Jacqui’s ring was custom-made by Simon Curwood, with the luxury Australian jeweller promoting the sparkler heavily on social media.

“We had so much fun creating this custom ring for (Clint and Jacqui). Happily ever after,” the brand posted on its Instagram story.

Clint, a wealthy retired golfer from Tasmania, told news.com.au he’d been planning the surprise proposal for “a few weeks” and had kept it secret.

Jacqui, who could be seen screaming in videos which emerged on TikTok, said she wanted the wedding to happen “as soon as possible”.

“I had no idea. We have talked about marriage but I thought it wouldn’t happen until after I turn 30. My 30th birthday is on Tuesday. This is what I wanted,” she said.

“I love the ring. It’s huge. It’s massive. It’s literally heavy.”

The high-profile nature of the proposal has become a laughing stock on social media, with hundreds of brutal comments shared on the video.

“Getting engaged at an event where ‘fans’ have paid to come. Top tier romance!,” one user wrote.

“No way, it’s got to be a publicity stunt,” another said.

“We do realise the maker of the ring was a sponsor/host of the party yeah? Hahah total publicity stunt,” a third added.

“Cringe as f**k,” one said.

“Wow. So intimate, meaningful and romantic. For social media, in a room full of strangers. RIP,” said another.

Clint, who was originally paired with Lauren on the Nine series before their romance fizzled, lost support from viewers during last night’s semi final, in which he boasted Jacqui had upgraded from “a Kia to a Ferrari”.

“Mate (Ryan), you live in the western suburbs. I’m not in the western suburbs in a one-bedroom s**thouse,” he added, laughing.

Jacqui and Clint revealed to the group during the reunion, which was filmed in November, that they had been dating for two weeks. The episode was shot four weeks after final vows, where Jacqui and Ryan went their separate ways.

They also said they were already planning to move in together at Clint’s lavish mansion in Tasmania, and were starting a joint business venture.
