Princess of Pop, Kylie Minogue, has been inducted into Music Victoria’s Hall Of Fame at the 17th annual awards in Melbourne on Thursday night.
Speaking from London via video link, Minogue said she was “honoured” to receive the induction and paid tribute to other award winners and nominees.
“Thank you Music Victoria for this incredible recognition, I am so honoured,” she said.
“This is extra special to me as this is my hometown, the place where my musical journey began back in 1987 when Mushroom Records released my first single, The Locomotion.”
“This led to opportunities I could never have imagined ... my deep gratitude to the many, many, many people who have been part of my journey, especially the one and only Michael Gudinski.”
Gudinski, who passed away in March, was an early supporter of Minogue, signing her to Mushroom Records after recognising her Neighbours’ popularity.
Earlier this year, Minogue revealed she was moving back to Australia after spending more than three decades in the UK with Music Victoria holding the award until her arrival.
“I am so honoured and thank you also [Music Victoria] for the amazing work you do on behalf of the artists and the music community in Victoria,” Minogue said.
“Congratulations to everyone being celebrated tonight. I’m sorry I’m not with you in person, but I look forward to seeing you real soon.”
