The Kid Laroi has surprised his Melbourne fans after cancelling last week’s shows by thrilling the audience with a shock appearance by The Wiggles.
The Aussie pop sensation fed the Melbourne crowd a healthy dose of nostalgia on Sunday night, performing three favourites from the early 2000s — Big Red Car, Fruit Salad and Hot Potato.
After their 2021 radio success on Triple J, The Wiggles re-found fame with Gen Z after they performed a cover of Tame Impala’s hit, Elephant.
The children’s music group took out first place in the Triple J Hottest 100 in January, and have since attracted the attention of celebrities as global as Phoebe Bridgers and Idris Elba.
“When I got in touch (with the Wiggles), they thought I would just want to perform one song,” The Kid Laroi told the audience.
“But I said, ‘nah, I want more than that’.”
Bright graphics and costumes stole the show as the Kid and the team from the Wiggles jumped around the stage with contagious enthusiasm.

It comes after the 18-year-old sensation postponed his Melbourne concerts at Rod Laver Arena last weekend, on doctor’s orders due to the flu.
The virus also struck down several members of his touring team.
Waiting fans were told the news at Rod Laver Arena 35 minutes after the Aussie musician was scheduled to appear at his sold-out show.
The cancelled show, which was announced almost an hour after a Welcome To Country address, caused an angry backlash inside the venue.
