Jonathan Brown says he is proud he can call himself a broadcaster having entered his fifth year of breakfast radio.
The former footy champion started his career on Nova alongside his current co-hosts Sam Pang and Chrissie Swan.
“Pang still thinks it’s funny when I refer to myself as a broadcaster, he gets a laugh out of that,’’ Brown said.
“The main thing is the friendship we have, it’s a lot of fun and we stir each other up. Swanny cooks me all my meals and I get to play golf with Pang. It does go quick, which is a good sign.”
Brown said he and Pang play golf most days after their early starts.
“It’s better than taking the kids to school,’’ he said. “(My wife Kylie) Kyles reckons I’ve got the hero shift, the school pick up.
“I’m down to 13 (golf handicap), Pangy is down to 15 or 16, but we probably should be lower for the amount of times we play.
“I think Pangy spends too much time practising. He’s a big hitter though, so he’s surprised a few who say he goes alright.”
Brown was at Flemington on Saturday for Super Saturday autumn racing and met with trainer Wayne Hawkes.
He will return to Fox Footy’s On the Couch and a commentary role with the network this season.
His daughter Olivia is also a keen footy player.
“She loves it, she’s mad for it,’’ Brown said.
“She sits up and watches the AFLW girls. I still haven’t been able to take the Carlton out of her.
“But she’s pretty switched on, she’s not as reckless as I was.
“I always say to her, you do realise if you play AFLW you have to play for Brisbane (under the father-daughter rule) and she says that’s OK, I’ll still barrack for Carlton.
“Could be Pangy’s influence, it has been disastrous.”
