I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! contestants Debra Lawrance and Liz Ellis bonded over their shared experiences of miscarriage in moving scenes that played out in Tuesday’s episode of the reality show.
The discussion was sparked when former netball champ Ellis, 50, sat down with Lawrance, 66, and reality star Aesha Scott to discuss motherhood.
Ellis and Lawrance both shared that they had their children relatively late in life, in their late 30s and into their 40s.
“This is so nice to know, because I’m 31 and I don’t want kids for ages,” Scott said.
Ellis warned her younger campmate that, as she got older, she struggled to fall pregnant with her second child.
“It took us five years. We did five rounds of IVF, I had three miscarriages. It was awful. But it’s OK, because I got my baby,” she said, breaking down in tears.
“I had that,” Lawrance then revealed.
“I lost four babies before I got Will [son William, born in 1999]. They weren’t meant to be … I lost two single babies and then identical twin girls. They were later into the pregnancy, and they had a syndrome that meant they weren’t going to survive.”
“I’m so sorry,” Ellis said, pulling Lawrance in for a hug.
“Will was the baby we were waiting for. It makes them really precious, doesn’t it?”
Lawrance consoled a weeping Ellis, telling her that the grief of miscarriage is “a big thing – and it holds in your body.”
Scott asked Ellis how far along in her pregnancies she’d been when she miscarried. “The first two – really quick,” she shared.
“The third, I was about 12 weeks along, and we’d seen the heartbeat. That’s the hardest isn’t it, when you’ve seen the heartbeat? You’re like, ‘Yay, I can be excited now!’”
Lawrance then shared her own story – breaking down as she spoke of losing her twins.
“It was a 16-week scan – oh, I’m going to cry now – but at 16 weeks, he said one heartbeat wasn’t there, and that they had the same syndrome, that he could tell from the ultrasound. I’m very pragmatic about things … You’ve got no choice but to accept it. There’s no wishing it away.”
She added: “It’s actually good to cry about it. It’s actually good to acknowledge the loss.”
Scott said she felt “incredibly privileged” to be able to hear both her campmates’ deeply personal stories. “You guys are such strong women,” she told them, as the trio embraced.

And KAK also copped some heat from MAFS star Domenica Calarco, who demanded to know why the Logie-winning TV legend had been allowed to bring her make-up into the jungle.
