Hollywood star Treat Williams’ final post before tragic death

Blue Bloods star Treat Williams gave fans an insight into his idyllic country life in a final post shared just hours before his death in a motorbike accident.

Actor Treat Williams gave fans a look into his idyllic life in the Vermont countryside in his final social media post before his death earlier this week in a motorbike accident.

The post — a video of the Blue Bloods actor mowing the lawn and showing followers the farmland — was published just hours before he died in a motorcycle crash in Vermont on Monday around 5pm (7am AEST). He was 71.

“Hay day,” he captioned the video.

That same day, he posted a photo of the farm from the point of view of him sitting on the lawnmower with the caption: “There is no better smell than new mown hay.”

He, his wife of 35 years Pam Van Sant, and their two children, Gill and Ellie, long called an old Vermont farmhouse their home, the New York Post reported.

The actor adored the state, frequently posting photos of his property and the countryside to social media.

“I’ve always loved Vermont, and it’s kind of a way of sharing that with people,” he said in a 2016 interview.

He added that he was honoured when one Twitter denizen excitedly pointed out he was on the platform only to be corrected by another who thought he was a historically-inclined farmer.

“Somebody went, ‘OMG! Treat Williams is on Twitter!’ And somebody wrote back, ‘No, that’s a farmer in Vermont who takes pictures of old buildings and stuff,’” he recalled to the publication.

“I was so proud of that. You know, I’m very happy where I live and I love my environment.”

Williams was riding his motorcycle when he was struck by a car driver who didn’t see the motorcycle while making a turn, People reported. He was flown to hospital but later died.

STARS PAY TRIBUTE TO WILLIAMS

It comes as Hollywood’s big names stars paid tribute to the late star.

“Treat was about the nicest, most likeable guy you could imagine. How awful this is,” Sam Neill said in a post featuring a headshot of the actor.

Other stars followed suit with Ellen Barkin tweeting that the news was “heartbreaking” and calling Williams “down to earth and the real deal.”

Kim Cattrall also took to social media to mourn the loss of veteran actor.

“I’m in shock! RIP Dear Treat. My condolences to [wife] Pam [Van Sant], [children] Gilles, Ellie and the family. A wonderful actor and friend,” Sex and the City star Cattrall tweeted alongside a photo of them acting together in the 1999 movie 36 Hours to Die.

“This is a tough one, and I don’t like doing this on social media, but I want to share what an absolute treasure Treat Williams was- both as an actor and a person,” Matt Bomer – who played Williams’ son in White Collar – captioned a photo.

“Treat – you were an amazing actor and an even better person and I will miss you. I count myself so blessed to have known you. My heart goes out to your wife and children. Rest in Peace my friend.”

Lou Diamond Phillips called Williams “a lovely, kind and generous soul” while Alec Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria posted an Instagram Story revealing how “sick” and “broken” her family feels after the loss of her husband’s Drunk Parents co-star.

Melissa Gilbert expressed her shock in two emotional posts: “This is not real. It can’t be.”

“None of us will forget his kindness and humanity. Especially me. Oh how you are loved and oh how you will be missed … Dearest Treat my friend and childhood crush, may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest,” she captioned her second post.

Just hours before he was killed, Williams posted idyllic photos to his Instagram account celebrating his country life in Vermont.

Williams posted video of mowing the pasture, making hay, and vistas of green farmland just five hours before he was killed while riding his motorbike in the town of Dorset in the picturesque New England state.

Williams’ agent of 15 years Barry McPherson told People Magazine, “He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off. I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented.”

“He was an actor’s actor. Filmmakers loved him. He’s been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s,” McPherson added.

“He was really proud of his performance this year. He’s been so happy with the work that I got him. He’s had a balanced career.”

Williams’ family also released a statement on his passing to showbiz website Deadline, saying, “It is with great sadness that we report that our beloved Treat Williams has passed away tonight in Dorset, Vermont after a fatal motorcycle accident. As you can imagine, we are shocked and greatly bereaved at this time.”

“Treat was full of love for his family, for his life and for his craft, and was truly at the top of his game in all of it. It is all so shocking right now, but please know that Treat was dearly and deeply loved and respected by his family and everyone who knew him.”

Tributes continue to pour in from Hollywood celebrities who knew or worked with the Everwood and Deep Rising star.

Williams’ Everwood and Hair co-stars also expressed their condolences.

Gregory Smith, who played Williams’ son on Everwood, told People Magazine in a statement: “This news is devastating. Treat was a wonderful man and a brilliant actor. Above all, he loved his family so much. I’m very grateful for the time I got to spend as part of his extended TV family.

“He made an indelible impression on me during my most formative years. I will always cherish my time with Treat and think fondly of his stories, his laugh and his passion for adventure.”

Beverly D’Angelo, who co-starred with Williams in Hair and A Streetcar Named Desire, shared their last text message interaction in which she thanked “treatski” for calling her to discuss “the importance of adapting, growing” in the industry.

“A gifted sincere magnificent human who valued fatherhood and family above all … I hope you hear everyone singing your praises Treat. I will miss you. I cry for you. Fly.”
