Earlier this year, Gwyneth Paltrow found herself at the centre of a court case that rose her to a new level of social media fame.

Gwyneth Paltrow has finally opened up about her ski trial that had social media in a frenzy earlier this year.

Dr Terry Sanderson, 76, sued the 50-year-old celebrity for $US300,000, claiming she was liable for a crash that left him with physical damage and “serious brain injuries”.

However, Paltrow countersued for $1 and ended up winning.

The case played out in open court and was watched by millions of people around the world.

In an interview with The New York Times, the GOOP founder recalled the court case and confessed that it’s something she still doesn’t quite feel like she’s been able to process.

“I was just getting dressed and going to a pretty intense experience every day,” Paltrow explained.

“And the sartorial outcome was so weird to me. That whole thing was pretty weird. I don’t know that I’ve even processed it. It was something I felt like I survived. Sometimes in my life it takes me a long time to look back and process something and understand something.”

During the court case Paltrow, who has proved to be somewhat of a divisive figure over the years, appeared to win the support of those following the trial across social media.

When asked how the accident had impacted her life, Paltrow became a meme when she told the court at the time: “Well, we lost half a day of skiing”.

On her way out of court after her win was announced, Paltrow touched Doctor Sanderson’s shoulder and told him: “I wish you well”.

In recent years, Paltrow has stepped away from acting and focused on her lifestyle brand instead.

However, that doesn’t mean she won’t be making a return to the career that made her a star.

In the past, she has teased she plans to sell GOOP in the future, and when she does, she promised her mother she would dip her toe back into acting.

“I mean, I did say to my mom” — the actress Blythe Danner — “that I would do a play when I sell the company,” added Paltrow. “She just says I have to, and I have to keep my promise to her.”
