Greek tennis ace Stefanos Tsitsipas admits he has been deeply affected by the bushfire crisis in Australia.
The Australian Open’s sixth seed visited city institution Stalactites who are donating all sales from the Tsitsipas Souvlaki to the CFA and Wildlife Victoria on top of the $10,000 they already donated.
“It makes me really sad and I didn’t realise that they had started in September and are still burning. I was shocked,’’ Tsitsipas said.
“I hope to raise awareness and contribute as much as I can from the sales of my souvlaki.
It is bigger than everyone thinks and together we can provide a solution.”
The Tsitsipas Souvlaki costs $17 and contains ingredients based on the tennis star’s collaboration with the restaurant, and includes lamb gyros, tomato, tzatziki, fresh pomegranate, onion, fresh basil and mint, crumbled feta, chips, and a touch of chilli.
“I like the mixture of all the flavours,’’ he said.
“(In Melbourne) I like the hospitality, the people and the weather.”
