RFDS

Tuesday, 9pm, Seven

New cast member Emma Harvie loved the medical training behind her new role as mental health nurse Chaya so much that she’s been thinking if the acting roles dry up, maybe she’ll do medicine. And it’s quite an introduction to Broken Hill and the team at the Royal Flying Doctor Services (RFDS).

Staff shortages – and the heart of the base, Leonie (Justine Clarke), missing in action – have the team working at their limits around the chaos of the White Cliffs rodeo, leaving Pete (Stephen Peacocke) and Chaya alone to deal with a horror car crash that forces him to act well outside of his scope of practice – mid-flight.

Understaffed since Eliza (Emma Hamilton) headed back home to the UK, Wayne (Rob Collins) feels the mounting pressure of his new role as SMO and being the only full-time doctor at base. He’s stuck in Adelaide, so Mira (Ash Ricardo) and Matty (Jack Scott) are in a desperate race to get to their colleagues 300km away.

Great cast, great writing and stunning scenery – so glad Seven finally commissioned another season.

BILLIONS

Friday, Stan.

The highly anticipated final season will see Damian Lewis return for the last half of the 12-ep series.

It picks up in the aftermath of season 6, with Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) losing a whopping $3.5 billion but managing to save his political career. Meanwhile, Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) ended up behind bars briefly, before getting busted out by his associate Dave.

Now, Rhoades will go full throttle in his attack on Prince and the newly-returned Bobby Axelrod (Lewis). The stakes are higher than ever, and everyone is fighting new battles with newer ammunition and wilder rules.

Fans shouldn’t despair – there are a few spin-offs already in the works – Billions: Miami, Billions: London, Millions, and Trillions.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 3.

Streaming, Disney+

This is the final time that we see the ragtag loveable group as we know them, and they are looking a bit different these days.

As we rejoin the Guardians, Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), has hit the bottle hard after the love of his life Gamora (Zoe Saldana) came back from the dead - kind of - with no memory of their former relationship. But he’s got to get it together to lead his friends to save comrade Rocket Raccoon from a scientist intent on removing his brain.

It’s a lot bleaker than the previous iterations, but a truly memorable and apt finale.

HEART OF STONE

Friday, Netflix

Move over, James Bond, there’s a new spy in town – Gal Gadot goes from superhero to super spy in this twisty, action-packed thriller. No-one is who they seem to be – because that would be just a bit too straightforward, right?

Directed by Peaky Blinders’ Tom Harper, the globetrotting tale finds a team of elite MI6 spies battling to prevent a sinister global organisation known as The Charter from gaining control of an all-powerful AI-controlled surveillance system.

Team leader Parker (Jamie Dornan – and it’s always a joy to hear his native Belfast accent) joins with Gadot’s highly-skilled computer tech Rachel Stone and the rest of their undercover colleagues have to work together to save the day.

So, not that different to Wonder Woman – just no lasso of truth.

RED WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE

Friday, Prime Video

“I’m a huge rom-com fan, but I’m also like, how can I do this differently?” author Casey McQuiston said in 2019 about their debut novel. “I’m a queer person. So the first subversion was thinking, what if this is a queer kid and he has to deal with what that means for his position in the world?”

What followed was a charming romance about the First Son of the United States falling for a British prince. Now it’s been adapted into this delightful and much-needed dose of pure escapism about a secret romance between Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the son of the first woman President of the United States (the fabulous Uma Thurman), and Britain’s Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine).

MEN IN KILTS: A ROADTRIP WITH SAM AND GRAHAM

Sunday, Binge

It’s been somewhat of a long time between drinks, for fans of this travelogue series where Outlander stars – and real-life friends Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish (Jamie Fraser and Dougal McKenzie) – explore the world in road-trip style.

And it’s a, ahem, “kilty pleasure” as the pair head across the globe to New Zealand this time for some rather hair-raising adventures.

McTavish has strong ties with our Kiwi neighbours – he played dwarf Dwalin in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, so it’s absolutely no surprise the pair head to Hobbiton for a Tolkien style makeover.

Plus there’s some extreme sports – zip lining. “How high is your highest zip line?” Heughan asks. “100m” is the reply. “100m,” Heughan repeats. “There may be no return.”

Spoiler alert, they are OK, which means we can have a third season of fun and banter, pretty please.

THE TRAITORS

Sunday, 7.30pm, Ten

Think Cluedo on steroids – with some Survivor-esque challenges to add to the pot of – not gold – but rather silver that the winner walks away with at the end. And it’s a whole lot of fun watching Roger Corser play the eccentric host of the manor.

The new 20 players in this second series include some familiar faces – Underbelly actor Gyton Grantley, Australian Survivor favourite Luke Toki and Below Deck’s Hannah Ferrier, plus some fresh ones such as Traitors uber fan Annabel, hipster Blake or clinical psychotherapist Sarah – who prides herself on being able to spot a liar.

It’s twisty, turny and deliciously devious.

GREAT AUSTRALIAN BAKE OFF

Tuesday, Binge/Foxtel

It’s truly sweet and all the yays as former long-time host Maggie Beer heads back into the Bake Off tent to set the trickiest technical challenge for the grand finale of this feel-good baking show.

The final three have risen to every one of the some 30 bakes tasked for them this season by new judges Darren Purchese and Rachel Khoo. In their final, quite apart from Maggie’s terrifying guinea fowl terrine (I’m sure it tastes much better than it sounds), they’ve got to create a high tea, and then for their final showstopper of the season, they must bake the trend that is taking social media by storm, a 3D Illusion cake.

ADAM AND POH’S GREAT AUSTRALIAN BITES

Tuesday, SBS On Demand

Foodies and MasterChef alumn Adam Liaw and Poh Ling Yeow are the perfect combination in this eight-part series that sees them road trip across our nation to figure out what exactly is Australia’s national dish.

Tonight they’re in theTop End and Liaw’s a little nervous as they stroll out in life jackets – because, as he accurately points out, there’s a whole lot of crocs in Darwin Harbour. Fortunately, they’re arriving on jetskis James Bond style. First up it’s the Darwin sartee (like a satay) beef or chicken, marinated for two weeks in Uncle Alfie’s secret ingredients.

And while Uncle Alfie isn’t fussed on entering the debate – “I’m not fussy, I’ll eat what you give me” - other Darwinites reckon it’s their famous Laksa.

KITCHEN CABINET WITH ANNABEL CRABB

Tuesday, 8pm, ABC

Hooray – Annabel Crabb is back combining two of her passions – politics and food.

It’s been seven years between servings of this fabulous series where Crabb really gets to the back stories behind our leaders, while they cook together in their homes. And they can’t reach for the same tried-and-true deflective forms of words as they are wont to do.

“Which for a nosy person is massively useful,” she says. “So I can ask how Peter Dutton feels about being likened to a potato...”

First up is Western Sydney Independent Dai Le and they head to Cabramatta, to source ingredients for a crispy Vietnamese pancake, bánh xèo. Once in the kitchen, Le tells her refugee escape story and how she survived war, cancer and pirates on her way to being both a local and federal politician.
