The leafy streets of Elwood were taken over by Hollywood royalty, as the filming trucks rolled in on Wednesday for acting heavyweights Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning’s upcoming US TV series All Her Fault.
After her award-winning role as the mega-wealthy daughter Shiv in Succession, Emmy best actress and two time Golden Globe winner Sarah Snook shed the designer power suits for a wool beanie and scarf to play an anguished suburban mother.
The NBC Universal TV series is adapted from the 2021 Irish Times bestseller All Her Fault by Andrea Mara, with Snook in the lead role as Marissa Irvine.
Directed by renowned filmmaker Minkie Spiro, of Downton Abbey and Dead to Me, it also stars award-winning actress Dakota Fanning, of Twilight and Ripley fame, White Lotus series one jock Jake Lacy and Michael Pena, most notably from Oscar winning films Crash and Million Dollar Baby.
The twisty thriller centres around Marissa (played by Snook) when she arrives to collect her son Milo from his first playdate with a new boy at school, only to find an unrecognisable woman answering the door. She isn’t the nanny. She doesn’t have Milo. And so, begins every parent’s worst nightmare.
The series has been filming in and around Melbourne where 36-year-old Snook is currently based with her Australian actor and comedian husband David Lawson and their young child. The two longtime friends fell in love while quarantining together in 2020 during the pandemic.
This week filming went to Bayside ‘burb Elwood, with Normandy Rd taken over with more than 100 film crew, trucks, cameras and lighting.
Fanning was seen with Snook knocking on doors down the plane tree-lined road, with other actors holding missing signs around the street.
The film unit base has also been spotted at Point Ormond hill, with catering and crew, with many locals rubbernecking to see what all the commotion and fuss was about.
“It’s pretty exciting to think our little neighbourhood and community is being turned into a
Hollywood television series,” said 78-year-old Elwood resident Sandra McCulloch who was walking past with her dachshund pup Otto and elderly kelpie Ella.
Also starring is Abby Elliott of cult TV series The Bear and Sophie Lillis of horror film It. Piro, who also serves as an executive producer on the upcoming series recently said it was an honour to be directing Snook in Melbourne.
“Melbourne is an incredibly film friendly city brimming with amazing locations and immensely talented crew,” he said.
Snook echoed his sentiments saying the Victorian film industry is world class.
“I feel so excited about being able to work in Melbourne again,” she added.
“The industry we have here, across all departments of cast and crew, is world class. There’s always a can-do attitude, and I’m particularly impressed with the sustainability efforts our team on All Her Fault are making; showing we can lower our environmental impact without compromising quality.”
Victoria is not short of glamorous stars right now. Filming is also taking place in Melbourne’s Dockland Studios and on the Mornington Peninsula on multimillion-dollar Hollywood “shark thriller”, with Gladiator star Djimon Hounsou and Bridgerton favourite Phoebe Dynevor leading the cast.
The movie is expected to inject $30m into the Victorian economy.
