AFLW star Daisy Pearce says she has found even greater purpose in her off-field career because of the COVID-19 crisis.
The captain of Melbourne’s AFLW side and host of SEN’s The Kids’ Edition is also a midwife. She works at Eastern Health and is constantly inspired by the selfless frontline workers around her. Her partner, Ben, is a fireman.
“The reason that you choose to do the jobs like we do and the reason we both enjoy them is because we like giving back and caring for other people and doing our bit, and that does not waiver,” Pearce said.
“During these times it kind of gives you an even greater purpose and reason to go to work.”
Pearce kicks off the new season of The Kids’ Edition today at 8am.
“With so many kids missing Auskick or junior footy at the moment, I look forward to reaching out to them and offering some footy in a completely different form and try to keep them connected to the game,” Pearce said.
“I am hoping to be able to encourage them to get outside and kick the footy in their backyard and maybe, somehow, our radio program can become their stand-in footy team and footy club.”
In good news for footy fans, Pearce said she intended to play on with the Demons next year, while juggling the needs of her 17-month-old twins, Sylvie and Roy.
