What’s that Skip? You can fly a chopper but you didn’t make the top five best Aussie characters?

A poll by TV Week of the 100 top Aussie TV characters of all time has delivered some flamin’ outrageous results. He might have been able to fly a chopper, but Skippy the bush kangaroo didn’t make top five.

The greatest Australian TV character of all time is – stone the flamin’ crows – Home and Away’s Alf Stewart.

‘Flamin’ hell’, the Summer Bay stalwart, played by Ray Meagher, beat another Home and Away character, Irene Roberts played by Lynne McGranger and Kath and Kim’s Kath Day Knight, played by Jane Turner, for the top spot in a poll conducted by TV Week of the 100 top Aussie TV characters.

Home and Away’s Darryl ‘Brax’ Braxton, played by Stephen Peacocke, and Kath and Kim’s, Kim Craig played by Gina Riley, rounded out the top five in the curious compilation.

Some characters were bizarrely high in the list, while others landed oddly low – and some missed out all together.

Asher Keddie’s Offspring creation, Nina Proudman, was at 22. Kylie Minogue’s Neighbours’ character Charlene Mitchell landed at 27, a couple of places ahead of Ossie Ostrich.

Helen Tudor-Fisk, played by Kitty Flanagan in Fisk, came in at 53, Sigrid Thornton’s SeaChange character Laura Gibson made in at 68, and Amber Wheeler, played by Michala Banas in Upper Middle Bogan, was at 72.

Chloe Hayden’s Heartbreak High character Quinni Gallagher-Jones has quickly made an impression with viewers arriving in 90th position, and even Abigail’s ‘70s saucepot Bev Houghton from Number 96 made the list at 91.

Meanwhile, Tony Woodward, played by Rob Sitch in Utopia, was 97th, just ahead of another Sitch character, Frontline’s Mike Moore, which took spot 100.
