Sam Newman slams AFL Grand Final disgrace

Former footy superstar Wayne Carey has revealed he works with a life coach and has given Sam Newman advice on how to not blow his stack over issues such as the elcome to country.

Newman is a vocal and relentless critic of the welcome to country acknowledgment at events and sporting occasions, but Carey has encouraged him to stop getting worked up over things he can’t control.

Newman has vowed not to attend the AFL Grand Final while the welcome to country is part of the pre-game proceedings.

Newman spoke to Carey on his You Cannot Be Serious podcast with the former Footy Show star being encouraged by Carey to work on himself.

Wayne Carey has shared some new-found wisdom with Sam Newman.

“I continually work on myself and I speak to a life coach, not a psychologist, but there is psychology involved I guess, but it is about working on yourself,” Carey said.

“I don’t let things upset me … It is all about working on yourself, not worrying about things you have no control over.

“Clearly Sam you have no control over the AFL or anyone else for that matter wanting to do welcome to country. You don’t have control over it so, therefore, let the emotions that spill out in you over that be something that you can control.”

Carey said working with a life coach had helped him not worry about being judged.

“I no longer care about what people think,” he said.

“They judge about what they read or don’t read, they think they know you, they don’t know you.

“I am getting better at not giving a stuff. I don’t say that in an arrogant way, I say that in a way that I am more comfortable in myself now about not worrying about people’s thoughts and what they think. … you actually have to move forward in life.

“I don’t live in the past. It is a journey for me. If you don’t continue to learn and don’t continue to grow you are only going backwards.”
