A top celebrity spinner has bad news for blokes looking to cash in on reality TV fame – the girls make the big dollars as influencers post show, most guys don’t.
Celebrity manager Max Markson said the market for ex-reality stars was saturated and would be even more so with a new crop about to emerge from this season of Married At First Sight.
“If you are an influencer on MAFS, if you get a big social media following, you have the chance to earn good money – if you are a girl,” Markson said.
“Guys, with some exceptions, don’t earn the big money because the guys don’t get the paid collaborations that the girls do.
“There is not as much money as there used to be, but there is money there. I always tell them don’t give up their day job.
“A handful will be successful from each season, a lot of them won’t get anything. It is a hard game and it takes work.
“Some will get literally nothing and some will make enough money to buy a house.”
Markson said it was still worth doing reality TV, but people had to be realistic about the chances of turning it into a career.
“It is worth doing because there is a chance you will make it and it is worth doing because you will definitely get a lot of freebies,” he said.
“But turning the freebies into money is where the agents come in.”
Markson said the pool of available ex-reality influencers just kept growing.
“Saturated is an understatement,” he said.
“Every year you have The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Married At First Sight, Survivor, Big Brother, Love Island, The Block and the singing shows; you have so many people coming through.
“If you are female and have 100,000 followers you will earn money. Under that it is difficult.
“And it is work. It is hard work.”
