A tree change will take The Block to country Victoria next year with the show shelling out millions moving to Gisborne South in the picturesque Macedon Ranges Shire.

A 79 acre property at 207 McGeorge Road, South Gisborne has recently been purchased with plans showing the land had already been subdivided into seven lots when it was advertised for sale earlier this year.

It is believed the sale price for the property, which boasts grand views of Mount Macedon, was around $11 million.

The show is expected to centre on the transformation of the property into seven lots, with each turned into luxury rural escapes with pools, landscaped gardens and evocative driveways perfect for families looking for a country lifestyle or people desiring a green change.

While there are seven lots on the subdivision, that does not necessarily mean there will be more teams on the show. Five teams is the tip.

As in past years, it is expected that relocated weatherboard homes will be used as the basis of the builds of the show.

Just what the show will do with a run-down weatherboard home on one of the lots remains a mystery - perhaps it could be used as a challenge house or even a group renovation project?

Gisborne has certainly been attractive to The Block.

The Block creator Julian Cress recently bought a country retreat near Gisborne, forking out $1.56 million for a four-bedroom, four-bathroom home on 10 hectares in May.

“Came for work — staying forever! Magical countryside for a post-Covid lifestyle,” he posted on social media.

When contacted on Saturday, Cress would not comment on the location of the new series.

“We never confirm where we are making the show because we like to retain some element of surprise for our contestants,” Cress said.

“While I can’t confirm any rumour about where we are going next year, lifestyle properties in regional areas sounds like a great idea.

“If the rumour is true, whoever thought of it is a genius.

“The Block from its inception 19 years ago has always been about aspirational living for Australians.”

TV sources say the idea to take The Block to country Victoria — a first for the series — originated with Nine’s director of television Michael Healy.

Covid lockdowns have made many people want to swap urban clutter for wide open spaces, green fields and a more relaxed pace of life.
