The rumoured frosty relationship between Richmond coach Damien Hardwick and Tiger’s captain Trent Cotchin would seem to have thawed for the sake of the fans.
The pair fronted up for a series of supporter nights last week where they appeared with Richmond’s 2019 and 2020 Premiership Cups and – in a COVID-safe manner – met diehard club supporters, posed for photos with the treasured silverware and took part in Q&As.
Hardwick and Cotchin were rumoured to be at odds privately after Cotchin’s wife, Brooke, made a very public show of support on social media for Hardwick’s estranged wife Danielle when news broke of the break down of their marriage and Hardwick’s new relationship with Richmond club employee, Alexandra Crow.
Brooke posted a photograph of Danielle holding the youngest Cotchin child captioned: “Strength, courage, dignity.”
The depth of feeling and support between the Cotchins and Danielle was also highlighted when they spent Christmas morning together last year.
Brooke described Danielle and her children as their “second family” in an Instagram post that showed the Hardwick’s two daughters celebrating Christmas with the Cotchin’s two daughters.
“Our second fam. We love you,” Brooke wrote.
“What a special Christmas Morning. Our hearts are full. Love you Cotchins,” Danielle replied.
In this break up Brooke is clearly Team Danielle.
Danielle has had little to say about the end of her marriage other than a couple of comments on social media, the most pointed coming in early January.
It read: “F**k every single person that took advantage of your kindness and mistook it for weakness.”
