Details have emerged of the royal family connection of Prahran bar owner Hayden Burbank, who is awaiting his hearing in a Perth jail cell.

Grand final border breacher, Hayden Burbank, who is languishing in Perth jail awaiting his next hearing, has been revealed as having a close family connection to the future king of England.

Burbank is the nephew of Australian polo great Sinclair Hill who famously taught Prince Charles to play his beloved game of polo.

And there is also a connection between the Hill family and Prince Harry.

The Duke of Sussex stayed at a vast Queensland property owned by Hill’s son, Noel, during his gap year in 2003 where he worked for three months as a jackaroo.

Hill, AM OBE, reached the rarefied air of being rated a 10-goal polo player – the first Australian to do so.

While he started out teaching Prince Charles the art of polo behind the Orangerie at Windsor Castle, the pair went on to become fast friends.

He and his wife Wendy were guests at Prince Charles’ wedding to Lady Diana in London in 1981. Charles had stayed with the couple at their Moree property in April of that year.

Burbank is their nephew – Mrs Hill is his father’s sister – and press clippings show him welcoming his uncle and aunt to his then newly opened South Yarra restaurant/bar Morris Jones in 2011 and in 2013 discussing his love of polo, thanks to his uncle.

Burbank made a major property play in June, purchasing a three bedroom Toorak home for $4.825 million after selling his Mount Street, Prahran abode for $1.25 million in March.

Burbank and his Demon-loving mate Mark Babbage, 39, each face three charges of providing false information to border authorities after travelling to Perth to watch the AFL Grand Final.

Their next court appearance is listed for October 13.

They each face a fine of up to $50,000 if found to have breached WA’s Emergency Management Act and up to 12-months in jail.
