British superstar Robbie Williams has continued his love affair with the AFL – in particular, with Carlton.
After setting a new standard for the Grand Final pre-game entertainment at the MCG last year and this week revealing his fascination with the game – and in particular the Blues – has endured, on Friday night he paid tribute in song to Carlton big man Tom De Koning and coach Michael Voss after the Blues’ epic win over Melbourne.
“Wow, is it like this every year, because I am so in, my God,” Williams said on Instagram while watching the match on his laptop in Europe where he is on tour.
He was then inspired to launch in song, celebrating the actions of De Koning in lyrics sung to the tune of Love Is In The Air.
“De Koning’s in the air everywhere I look around,” Williams sang.
“De Koning’s everywhere, leaving bodies on the ground,
“And he is better than his brother, even better than his dad,
“There is only one Thomas De Koning and he is the best one we have ever had.
“De Koning is in the air
“The city is ours, the city is ours.”
Williams included Michael Voss in his shout outs, placing a poo emoji over a headline from earlier this year questioning if Voss was up to the job of coaching Carlton.
Williams will be in Melbourne in November with his XXV world tour, playing two shows at AAMI Park.
