Radio legend Rex Hunt clears the air with journalist Mike Sheahan

There was a war of words when radio legend Rex Hunt came face-to-face with journalist Mike Sheahan. Hunt took Sheahan to task over an issue stemming back to 2013. Find out what happened.

Sam's rebooted podcast back on air

After ripping the Band-Aid off a six-year old grudge and delivering him a hard and fast spray, Melbourne radio legend Rex Hunt says he has buried the hatchet with Mike Sheahan.

The footy media icons faced off in October on Sam Newman’s You Can’t Be Serious podcast, where Hunt took Sheahan to task over an interview they did in 2013.

Hunt had been unhappy with the direction the interview took and used the podcast to settle the score by telling Sheahan to his face what he thought of him.

Two months down the track Hunt said the issue was now behind the pair.

“There is certainly no bad blood between Mike and I and we have certainly buried the hatchet,” Hunt said.

“I think Mike understands that the podcast was a little bit of tongue in cheek, a little bit of theatre, but he did not quite understand it (at the time) like Sam Newman did.”

Hunt, a master of entertaining radio, is returning to 3AW with his much loved fishing show this Friday. The show will air for an hour from 7pm each Friday until January 17.

“On Friday nights I am going to take the listeners everywhere from the Murray River to Port Phillip Bay to Traralgon creek to Port Melbourne pier,” Hunt said.

“We will be discussing everything from rods, reels and fishing lines to the state of the nation and anything anyone wants to talk about.”

MORE GOSSIP QUEEN

Hunt will also be returning as the host of 3AW’s Footy Nightline next year.

Hunt, 70, said he was grateful and delighted to be part of the 3AW family.

“Every day I get out of bed and bless the ground that I land on,” he said.

“When Stephen (Beers, 3AW Station Manager) called and said, ‘I have five spare Friday nights, are you interested in doing your fishing show?,’ I said, ‘I will think about it,’ and one moment later I said, ‘Stephen, yes, I am in’.

“I am looking forward to getting back there.”
