Has Bachie hit a new low with contestants seeking thrills, hatching plans to scuttle others and, oddest of all, a quest for penguin love?

One is seeking “her penguin,” another is looking for “thrill seeking” dates, while another “always wins” and has a plan to scuttle her competition: this is just a slice of three of the six Victorian women taking part in the revamped reality matchmaking series The Bachelors.
Tash, Angela, Courtney, Emma, Jenae and Tilly are among the 29 participants vying for the attention and affection of The Bachelors: Thomas Malucelli, Jed Mcintosh and Felix Von Hofe on the Channel 10 series this year.
Tilly, 24, is “looking for her penguin to spend the rest of her life with,” but says she is single because she “can be intimidating to men as I am so driven, I have high standards and I know what I deserve.”
Tash, 31, already has her sights set on session drummer Mcintosh.
“I’m here for Jed and I always win so I have a strategy to get the other girls sent home.” she said.
Beauty entrepreneur Jenae, 29, says she is “as subtle as a brick to the face” when she fancies someone.
Meanwhile Angela, 25, says her high standards have thwarted her quest for love, but she wants “to settle down and be married once, and to do it right.”
“I have come to realise over the years that I am a perfectionist, in all aspects of my life, but particularly when it comes to men and relationships,” she said.
Ten has a lot riding on the revamped series after the Bachelor franchise bottomed out with the poor ratings for Brooke Blurton’s season of The Bachelorette in 2021.
Even Blurton admitted she was a flop in the role, telling her social media followers in November that: “In terms of entertainment value, did I provide it? Absolutely f*cking not. I think I was the sh*ttest Bachelorette.”
In response Ten has overhauled the show, moved it to Queensland, cast three Bachelors and heightened the drama between the ladies looking for love.
Will it work?
We will find out when the show launches on January 9.
