Fresh from the I’m A Celebrity camp in the South African jungle, Nicky Buckley brought sass, sequins and a rock star strut to the Melbourne fashion sisterhood.
Buckley was among a clutch of celebrities and sporting, business and fashion identities who showed style is ageless at the ‘F--- The Invisible Runway’ at the Melbourne Fashion Festival on Friday night.
It was the runway show of the week with a high energy, packed house at the Royal Exhibition Building loudly supporting the models and designers.
A model before she became a household TV name thanks to Sale of The Century, Buckley, 59, looked like she had never stepped away from the catwalk.
Rocking double denim by Nobody Denim, a flowing red dress and an elegant soft green evening gown with voluminous skirt by Jason Grech, Buckley then took a show stopping turn wearing a black sequined jacket over a translucent midriff top and shorty black shorts by designer Lisa Barron.
It was her rock star moment.
Making her catwalk debut was former Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp who was joined on the runway by Victorian Institute of Sport CEO Nicole Livingstone.
Wearing outfits by the label Mastani, Capp and Livingstone were met with cheers and loud applause as they powered past the supportive fashion set.
Capp, who is the CEO at Create Advisory and is a Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Melbourne, described her moment in the fashion spotlight as an honour.
“It was an absolute thrill,” she said.
“I am very confident it is a one off, but the energy and the sense of pride wearing those beautiful clothes, it was absolutely fantastic.
“To be able to walk with Nic was an absolute honour. We stuffed up the rehearsals, but I think we managed to get it right on the night.
“We really wanted to enjoy it, and we did.”
Also celebrated on the catwalk was Elaine George, the first Indigenous Vogue cover girl.
It is understood former Governor of Victoria Linda Dessau was sounded out to appear in the show, but politely declined.
