The quest to win an international beauty pageant crown has become a full time job for Melbourne model Janaya Reimers.

Reimers, 22, been in training for her tilt at four titles for the past 13 months.

The bayside resident was named Miss Global Australia in 2023 and finished in the top 10 of the Miss Global international final last year.

She is the current Miss Supranational Australia and will represent Australia at the Miss Supranational international final in Poland later this month.

Beauty is a business for Reimers who is also an Australian Red Cross Lifeblood ambassador.

“There is so much that goes into pageants that people don’t realise, it is not just looking pretty,” Reimers said.

“There is training for public speaking, media training, coaching on how to do presentations, and walking training.

“You have a different walk for your bikini competition, a different walk for the national costume section and a different walk for the evening gown sections.

“People don’t realise how intense it really is.

“I have been preparing since April last year for international competitions.”

Reimers said it was her dream to be crowned an international pageant queen.

“It has literally been my dream to win one of these titles, not just because of the crown but because of the platform it can give me to talk about what I am passionate about and raise awareness for Lifeblood,” she said.

“Back in 2021 my dad got diagnosed with cancer and he had to get blood transfusions. That is when I learnt the importance of blood donations and the lives that can be saved by becoming a donor.”

Reimers said social media and the impact it can have on mental health was another issue that was important to her.

“So many fan pages are judging you and comparing you to different contestants (in the pageant),” she said.

“It is very difficult to read it (negative comments) and not think ‘Oh yeah, that is true’. I feel like I am lucky that I have grown up with people around me that tell me not to read it and tell me how to manage that sort of feedback and comments.

“I have become increasingly aware how important it is to look after your mental health.

“I know that a lot of people can really be affected by this type of (online) judgement and I think it needs to stop.”
