After taking a three month break to focus on his mental health, Marty Sheargold will make his radio return on Triple M’s Melbourne breakfast show next Monday.
Sheargold leaving the AFL Grand Final midway through the game in September sparked a flurry of rumours and in early October, after being on air for a week after the game, he stepped away from his namesake Triple M show citing mental health concerns.
“I just wanted to let people know that I’ll be taking an extended break from work, with the very kind and compassionate permission of my employers, who have been generous in their understanding of my need for a break,” Sheargold said in a statement released by Triple M in mid October.
“I think it’s important for people like myself who have a public voice to admit that I am exhausted mentally from my range of commitments across TV, radio and live shows, in an attempt to continue to remove some of the roadblocks and stigma around mental health.I need to set aside some time to get my work/life balance back into something that feels better than it has over the last couple of years. Thank you to everyone who has reached out, your support has been welcome and enriching.”
A Southern Cross Austereo spokesperson confirmed on Friday that Sheargold would be back at the helm of his Marty Sheargold Show when the radio ratings year kicked off on Monday, January 15.
A relaxed Sheargold was pictured on social media in December lunching with his comedy mates Anthony ‘Lehmo’ Lehmann, Adam Rozenbachs, Titus O’Reily and Tom Gleeson.
A second photo showed him with media legend Bruce McAvaney and his Triple M cohort Loren Barry.
Sheargold is due to perform in Geelong on February 9 and 10 in the stand up show The Comedians alongside Sam Pang, Mick Molloy and Lawrence Mooney.
