Jake Edwards lashed online after new bid to find love

Former footballer Jake Edwards has revealed his relationship regret after his ex-fiancee slammed him for cheating.

Former Carlton player Jake Edwards has admitted to cheating on his fiancee just weeks before their planned fairytale wedding.

Edwards and Paige McCuskey were set to wed in December 2019 after four years of dating, until the soon to be bride discovered she had been betrayed and the wedding was cancelled just weeks before the big day.

Ms McCuskey hit back by editing all the loving social media posts of the pair to express her disappointment.

Now Edwards has admitted that he did do the dirty on McCuskey.

“It’s probably one of the biggest regrets of my life.

“I was with someone I thought I wanted to spend my life with but there was something missing,” he told Who magazine.

“Stupidly, I cheated on her with another woman. My behaviour was very poor.

“It forced me to look at my life. I lost a lot of things because of it: my house, mutual friends and her family. I’m not proud of it.”

Photographer Ms McCuskey’s heavily barbed comments to photos of her and Edwards on her Instagram from years gone by made headlines earlier this week.

The comments leave little doubt about her thoughts of Edwards.

On a photo of the pair in Dubai in 2018 McCuskey wrote: “Should have left him there to melt.”

To a snap of them in a car together after he had returned from an interstate trip in April 2018 she recently added the comment: “Who knows what you were doing when you were away.”

On a picture of them celebrating Edwards’s 30th birthday where she expresses her love for him and their future together she added the updated comment recently: “What bloody future.”

On a shot of them kissing at a friends wedding in November 2017 that was originally captioned “My rock..” she added the updated comment: “ehhkkkk also other people’s rocks.”

She was a little more blunt with the extra comment she added to a picture of she and Edwards kissing in August 2017.

The original captioned read ‘LOVE’. Her additional comment read “Deceit.”

On a photo of the couple at awards night in Adelaide in December 2018 she wrote: “Pity he doesn’t act how he preaches – all about mental health, communication/honesty but lives a secret life for months.”

Edwards and McCuskey were due to marry but their engagement broke off late 2019.

Edwards is appearing on Married At First Sight where his show biography states: “Previously engaged, he ended the relationship when he realised he didn’t love her anymore.”

It is also notes that “Jake struggles to find a girl who doesn’t try to take advantage of him; he wants someone to love him for himself, not for who he is.”

A clearly unimpressed McCuskey shared his MAFS biography on her Instagram story recently with the caption: “The lies have started, get ready for all the bullshit that comes from his mouth everyone.”

While Edwards, who has previously spoken about his drug, alcohol and mental health issues, was not available for comment today, he did address some of the issues with his ex in a recent radio interview.

Edwards played five games with Carlton in 2008.
