Free spending Melbourne billionaire Adrian Portelli has forked out a hefty five figure sum after daring Block host Scott Cam to down a shot of booze – and losing.
Portelli and Cam were among a small group including fellow big spender Danny Wallis, Block co-host Shelley Craft and Block executive producer Julian Cress having dinner at French restaurant Anerie on Phillip Island on May 2 in Cowes.
The group had headed to the venue after a VIP buyer’s night at the Phillip Island location of the 2024 series of The Block.
As the main course was cleared Portelli offered the group a round of shots.
Cam declined explaining that he did drink shots – so Portelli decided to offer a sizeable incentive and see how strong Cam’s resolve was.
The LMCT+ boss stunned the table by betting Cam $10,000 he would drink the shot of tequila.
After pondering the offer, Scott relented and downed the shot.
A man of his word, Portelli transferred the money to Scott’s account on the spot.
However, there was a twist, as he completed the transfer Portelli apparently joked he would have paid Cam $50,000 if he held out and left the spirit untouched.
Cam is sharing his good fortune, not keeping the cash windfall.
Channel 9 confirmed he was donating $5000 to Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre and $5000 to the Miracle Babies Foundation.
The VIP buyers’ night was significant for another reason, in that it brought The Block’s big spenders Portelli and Wallis together.
The pair have been pitched as auction rivals on the grand final of The Block in recent years with their robust jousting for homes and competitive bidding.
But now they have bonded on The Block.
The pair turned heads as they walked around the five properties, chatting and checking out the progress of the builds before heading off to what turned out to be an expensive dinner for Portelli.
The Block is deep in production with less than a month left until the final ‘tools down’ whistle for the contestants.
