The resurrection of Neighbours caught pretty much everyone by surprise when it was announced on Thursday.

And the unexpected return of the show may have caused a problem for organisers of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards.

The AACTAs was planning a tribute to Neighbours following its axing in July after 37 years at the awards gala in Sydney on December 7.

Organisers confirmed on Friday the tribute, which took on extra significance after the Logies gave scant regard to the legacy created by the soap during its long, successful run at that ceremony in June, will still go ahead - despite the show no longer being cancelled.

In what seems to be an early Christmas miracle, Neighbours has returned from the TV scrap heap thanks to a deal between Fremantle, the producers of the show, and Amazon Freevee and Prime Video.

Network 10, the home of Neighbours for over three decades, will retain first run broadcast rights in Australia.

The show will go into production in April with new episodes set to air on 10 in mid-2023.
