The welcome mat has been laid out for Eddie McGuire by new Triple M Breakfast host Marty Sheargold.

Sheargold launches The Marty Sheargold Show on Monday in the shift that McGuire held for 11 years with his headline-making, news-breaking Hot Breakfast program.

The pair have not been in contact since McGuire signed off and Sheargold was confirmed as Triple M’s new breakfast guy last month, but their paths are sure to cross.

“No, I have not spoken to Eddie. I am sure it is just that time of year, busy man, busy lives,” Sheargold said.

“I have actually only met him once and that was at the footy at the MCG.

“The door is always open here for Eddie.”

Sheargold said he was more than ready to kick off his show after being off air for four months since quitting Nova drive in September.

“I had a long break after leaving the drive shift and I am fresh and ready to perform. I miss the discipline and structure when I don’t have it. I like being a full time worker,” he said.

“I was just asked how long I would like to have the (Triple M) contract for and I said ‘25 years’. I don’t think that is being outrageous. That would take me to 75.

“But to be fair, I don’t think my 25 years idea has been shared by anyone but me.”
