Western Bulldogs 2016 premiership star and life member Tom Boyd has celebrated his engagement to his longtime partner, Anna Von Moger.
The couple brought friends and family together from across the globe to share in their happiness at the celebration at a rooftop venue in Yarraville on Saturday.
Boyd and Von Moger grew up next door to each other.
“My family lived in Anglesea and Tom’s family had a holiday house down there so we were next door neighbours and I believe we met when I was 18 months old and Tom was three,” Von Moger said.
“We have lots of photos as kids over at each other’s houses. Then we moved and there was about 10 or 12 years of not much happening between the two families. We reconnected about five years ago and now we are here engaged to be married next year. The boy and the girl next door — it is quite sweet.”
The couple will tie the knot in December 2020.
Boyd, who is a powerful guest speaker and announced his retirement from AFL in May this year following a mental health battle, said the couple’s immediate plans included renovating property.
“The most important thing is we are happy and healthy and have a great support network around us and whatever new things come will be there to be enjoyed,” he said.
